Very effective: I specially like the colours in the mid ground row of trees and shrubs.

I can't do watercolours, she says! What's this then, scotch mist?! Lol. Fabulous sky, love the contrast between the dark the hill and the distant tree line, very striking. Look at the shape of those trees, now I'm the envious one Val. All finished off vey nicely with an interesting and textured foreground. There are a lot of different elements in this Val, which makes it a joy to look at. You certainly do DO watercolours.

Thank you Rosalind, I appreciate your generous comment.

Fiona, watercolours are the bane of my life :) for every passable watercolour I produce at least half a dozen have gone in the bin. It doesn't help that I jump from medium to medium ( pastel being my favourite) I know I should discipline myself more and stick to one medium 'til I've sort of got the hang of it but, hey ho, variety is the spice of life as they say lol. Thanks for your support and encouraging comments.

I like to have a change about too Val, I agree variety is the spice of life!

This is just lovely, Val - the palette and the luminous washes are super. Now what's this about not being able to do watercolors? This would make any watercolorist proud!

Thank you very much Seok, now that is a compliment coming from such an accomplished watercolourist as yourself.

There is a very similar site in Derbyshire Val, a clump of trees on a mound it is a Iron Age burial site. I like this painting it has a beautiful sky so well done Val. One of your special watercolours!

Hurray, My first watercolour since May ( apart from a gouache that doesn't count) that hasn't been binned, though some of you might think it needs to be lol. This is Law Hill, a local landmark near Dollar, Clackmannanshire. I've been told that in days gone by the clump of trees on the top of the hill were used for navigation by sailors as they sailed up the River Forth. Thanks for looking :)

I am a self taught artist or, as I like to say, I'm "unrestricted by formal teaching" which probably explains my mish mash of styles. I paint in most media, watercolour, gouache, oil, coloured pencil and my favourite, soft pastels. I'm inspired by the Scottish landscape, nature and animals and…
