Gorgeous work Paul, now you know you are going to need to do a tutorial on painting a branch as complicated as this don't you!

Another phantastic masterpiece.

He, he, thank you Ros, thing is it would be a loooong tutorial! :-) Thank you Pat!

Incredible detail, beautiful painting

Excellent work Paul, he's a winner!

Amazing detail and beautifully painted.

Beautiful! I love the expression on his face and the tree branch is incredible.

Thank you Karl, Glennis, Carole, Dawn and Christine for you lovely words!

Brilliant as always, nice to view your work again, love the detail as always, doing a few experiments at the moment with pencil media. Looking to get a similar reproduction.

Thank you Kirstie, I try to do a basic 3 or 4 step WIP on my FaceBook page https://www.facebook.com/thedevonartistpaul for many of my paintings incuding this one. Please click on 'Like' on the page so you get to see any future paintings I do on there. Hi Peter, I've not used CP's for many years but I do like them and the way you can layer/burnish the colours. I have a set of Prismacolors which are a set of American CP's and nice to work with. I will have to get them out again when time allows! :-)

Paul thanks so much for your great comment on my startled baby pastel portrait, you can probably imagine how tricky that one was to draw with that really difficult facial expression! Her grandmother loves it thankfully! Sorry about that little rant at you on Robert Mees ridiculous multiple posting attempt, like he could get away with that in light of all our re cent problems with mp's on this site, he realised and dealt with it straight away of course, if only they had all been as prompt to sort themselves out!

That's ok not a problem Ros. :-)

What can I say - just brilliant.

Well it's been a few weeks since I picked up a paint brush so I thought it was about time I did! Due to the detail in the wood this one has taken much longer to paint, so all in all around 12 hours. The woodwork was one of my favourite parts of this painting, very enjoyable working with a myriad of colours! I'm glad I chose this photo, I really do like the look over the shoulder stance!
