three lovely studies Paul.... They are so beautifully detailed. Hate to tell you this but I have a Nuthatch who comes everyday just outside of my kitchen window onto the nut container....I can almost touch him...along with a family of woodpeckers ( lesser spotted) and yesterday five long tailed tits....

Thank you Sylvia, and how jammy you are to have a Nuthatch so close to home!

Another beauty. Your birds are perfect with such wonderful colours. Sorry to rub it in but like Sylvia we have resident Nuthatches, woodpeckers, squirrels and tutti quanti ! Just wish I could paint them like this ! Well done on a beautiful series.

A beautifull painted nuthatch - lovely work

wonderful painting

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments, it certainly gives me a buzz to do some more paintings! Avril - I am jealous!

A beautiful series of bird paintings. Superbly done.

Paul - I last saw one of these birds over 50 years ago, on a tree just outside my Primary School - make that 55 years ago - I've never seen one since, but you know what childhood memories are: this has brought the memory thudding back and is exactly as I remember it. Of course, by the time I tried to draw the attention of the other kids to it, it had flown..... And I wonder if I'll ever see one again, in flesh and feather. I hope so.

Thank you to everyone for your kind and encouraging words! Robert - Nuthatches are quite abundant here in North Devon and even though we don't get them in our garden, we do get them in nearby woods, hence my reference photo for this painting. BTW - your landscapes are excellent at www.isleofwightlandscapes.net

gorgeous gallery, Paul.

Thank you Jennifer :-)

Beautifully photo-realistic with wonderful details.

I get a pair on my garden feeders.

Very beautiful work Paul, I like painting songbirds and waterfowl as well. It is an artist's right to take poetic license, thats what drives us! I have bird feeders outside my studio that provide me hours of entertainment with the many different visitors.

Nuthatch in watercolour, 225mm x 176mm on SAA 140lb paper. We have been hoping to get a photo of a Nuthatch for a VERY long time. Last weekend we decided to head out to a bird hide where we have seen Nuthatches outside. After sitting outside for an hour aiming my camera at a set up perch with food, a couple of Nuthatches finally arrived!! This one was actually on the peanut feeder, so a little bit of artistic licence was needed for the tree! :-) http://www.devonartist.co.uk/
