Beautifully done Denise , I’m afraid I would be a bit unhappy with them at four in the morning but I do share your point of how it invokes memories and feelings.

4 am - far too early for me. Sounds like you’ve made a friend. Lovely pastel.

I love the sound of gulls too Denise and I'm about as far from the sea you can get sadly! I like the feeling of the morning glow you have got here and the beak is spot on - I find them difficult to draw.

Super painting Denise, cover your car.

Love how it looks so confident Denise. Great little painting with lovely shadows.

A rather good pastel sketch Denise… it isn’t the easiest medium in my view, particularly when it comes to drawing detail! You’ve presumably used white paper for this one, my preference is for tinted papers generally, the white chalk on a toned paper when used for the lighter areas and highlights, seems to have more drama and impact! I always try and make some of my edges softer to blend into the background a bit - not all of them obviously, it can add another dimension… for me anyway!

They are great characters and well worth painting. Lovely sketch.

Great pastel and how lovely to be able to observe nature first hand

Thanks very much Paul, Christine, Sarah, Sylvia, Carole, Alan, Andrew, Coral and Heather. You are right Alan, I used Clairefontaine, pastelmat. There are a mixture of white and tinted. Not used it before, not sure what I think off it yet.

Keep an eye on your chips Denise!

Another successful piece of work Denise.

I like your colours Denise. It’s great that we can share our houses with other creatures. I have 3 sparrows nests in my loft!

This Seagull is a parent of two chicks nesting on my roof. It sometimes sits on the fence and looks at me through the kitchen window. I have been watching the chicks on the roof for a number of weeks now, they are just getting some feathers. I love hearing the sound of the seagulls at four in the morning, it reminds me of the fast flowing Mersey and the ships coming and going on the tide. Something I love to watch. Pastel sketch.
