Oh - that's brilliant! Love the whole surreal animals theme. Very inventive and artistic.

Oh you rotten thing! How dare you post this? Now my son wants me to paint his!!!!!!!!! This is brilliant.

amazing! what a brilliant idea!

Thanks for the comments. It has to be said because this is a classical guitar, neither the hands nor plectrum hit the surface of the picture; as such here we are 20 odd years later and after constant playing there is no deteriation of the surface at all; however with any other sort of guitar you might need to worry about special tough varnishes which I'm afraid I can't advise on. I would definitely recommend talking to a luthier at the local guitar shop; they can advise and maybe undertake the initial paint stripping for you, and apply the varnish professionally after you have done your picture :-)

My first guitar, very battered but an ideal candidate for a painting! Lots of hassle getting the varnish off with 'nitromors' at the start, before finishing off with a matt varnish. If you are going to try this, here's a tip : Only put the thinnest skin of varnish on; a thick coat will make the guitar sound 'boomy.'
