Now that's what I call a Cyber Cathedral ! Brilliant design, I love it.

You'll remember those great album covers on vinyl records, from the 70s and 80s - you had real space to play with in those days.. Not so much now: but this is highly arresting; I like your tile "cheat", and admire your patience in assembling your picture: I avoid Stanley knives ... too attached to my fingers, and vice versa, obviously....

Thanks people, the canvas size was about 2 foot by 2 foot. I told this guy I liked his Cyber Cathedral idea so much that I would do my own different version of the same thing, currently work in progress, slightly more fantasy and less heavy metal :-)

The band leader gave me just this short description: "cyber cathedral." Cyber Cathedral! What a great idea, I'd have never have thought of that. I got to work quickly doing lots of research into cathedral structure, organ pipes and oil refineries, the idea was to meld them all into the futuristic vision wanted by the band. The band logo was a challenge, if you ever have to do a difficult logo, here's how I did it: I printed the logo from the web, and sized it to the correct scale for the canvas. I then glued it onto card, and when dry, spent several hours carefully carving it out with a sharp stanley knife. Then I glued it with temporary roller glue onto the canvas, and airbrushed over it, and then peeled it off, leaving the white imprint of the logo. Thereafter, all detail and colour were added manually with the brush. The tile perspective construction is my own 'fool the eye' method based on a logarithmic reduction used more usually to calculate guitar fret distances! It is not a true representation of tiles, but it fools the eye and gives a perspective effect without the usual problem of horizontal and vertical lines converging too quickly.
