Michael you draw these so beautifully..I am full of admire . Flags are the yellow Iris you find growing wild in wet and boggy land . I have some amazing Bearded Iris from deep purples through to lovely reddy/ browns My contribution to the horticultural take .;-)

Thanks Sylvia for your kind words - so I guess that's Iris pseudacorus - thankfully the cartoon still holds up (I hope!).

You horticultural genius you two! I love flag iris they make for beautiful paintings! end of my contribution............... Give 'em a flag Michael, they deserve it!

I agree with Sylvia your simple line drawn gnomes are so characterful!

Very clever Michael, good that you explained what the flag means here, otherwise I wouldn't have understood.

Just love your gnomes, Not talking about gardening, mine is in such a mess after the storms.

I'm learning a lot of new things on this website. A few days ago, I learnt from Christine that the old rocking horse in our family was a Mobo horse, and now I find out that irises are called flags! Super cartoon, Michael!

Full of character these little chaps....do they have names Michael?

Thanks all - no names for the little chappies - just as well as they differ a bit each time I draw them. However I do have a little 'boy' ladybird if you know what I mean (sounds a bit kinky!) and he is called Cedric - will pop him into my next posting.

I am enjoying these very much too, along with the incidental information.

Today's offering - quite like the bearded iris - which we always knew as flags when I was young - but they are not so attractive when out of bloom so I no longer grow them. . I do grow n Iris Sibirica and have a few Dutch irises which I do like but they're only in flower over a short period - end of gardening discussion for today!
