Fine sketch, Micheal. I didn't know you could use water with charcoal...I've got some charcoal pencils, I'll have to give it a try.

thanks Lewis - neither did I till I tried it - they can produce some great results -na bit like using them with non-permanent pens.

Really stand-out effective Michael. Good work.

Lovely sketch Michael. Very effective technique and just enough detail. Would the charcoal and water be light fast I wonder?

These are lovely little sketches Michael, never think to use charcoal much, will have to give it a go 😃

Thanks Jim Louise and Linda. I'm not sure about lightfast but no less so than charcoal on its own would be my guess - . it's certainly a great way of quick sketching and the water seals the charcoal so no smudging - I add the fine detail when back home.

Great piece of sketching Michael full of sensitivity

I'll have to try this now if I can find any charcoal in amongst my clutter!

Works well here Michael, perhaps some wet in wet, out of focus winter trees, on that distant hillside? I remember reading an article in an old L.P. Magazine, by Norman Battershill, where he added light watercolour washes to charcoal sketches, tried it for a while.

Makes a fine sketch Michael.

Thanks to you all - I have added some washes to another one which I'll post later.

A super sketch again Michael.

This is again a great sketch, Michael. Love the result with the waterbrush.

Thanks Val and Mia - would love to see someone else have a go - it's such fun.

Good result, Michael.

I find your simple charcoal sketches very elegant Michael.....quite lovely.

Thanks Cesare and Fiona -

Missed this until I saw number 3, they are most attractive sketches.
