This has come off verywell Michael, it will look great in its frame. I read once that a good frame will enhance a good painting but nothing can be done for a poor painting. But that 's not a problem here, they will both help each other.

I agree with stephen. this is really lovely Michael, nice athmosphere and very well painted

Ahh..the colours of Italy, beautifully painted, as usual, Michael. The double mount looks great and I'm sure the trio of paintings will really look good. By the way, where do you buy your frames - or are they individually made?

Thanks everyone. Jane - in this case the frames were purpose made to clients choice from off cuts at a local framers so can't be repeated. Generally I buy batches of frames from a a couple of framers here in the east midlands - I can supply names if you want them - some are off the shelf as part of their standard range and others are made up to specification but in either case they are so much cheaper than ordering one at a time from a selection of samples. I only buy plain profile frames (I don't like fussy profiles) and usually avoid the more traditional brown wood which looks so dated. I always ask for and get a reduction (usually 10%) as an art club member - always worth asking for. As for mounts I cut my own and never less than 2.75 ins wide which is wider than the photo above indicates and always use double mounts - I only use pale ivory or off white as I don't like coloured mounts which do nothing for my work.

The rich bronze frames sound perfect Michael and will set these lovely pictures of a treat! Thanks too for your comments on my latest pictures, means such a lot to get positive feedback.

Lovely painting Michael, vibrant colours - they will look great mounted and framed

Super painting Michael. You've achieved the transparency and glow which we aim for when using watercolour. Those soft lights and hard darks! Also, I must agree with you about coloured mounts especially those dark green ones that seem to be popular. I detest them :) A dark mount can kill a painting in my opinion!

Super painting - love all the hot and sunny colours. I bet it looks a treat framed.

This is right up my street Michael, its beautiful. I can imagine a set of 3 together will look stunning and I love the mounts that you use too.Where are the other 2 and do you frame them yourself ? A frame can make such a massive difference to a picture.

I have a (usually concealed, apart from a bow-tie) flamboyant streak, and like heavy gold swept frames - which would be almost magnificently wrong for this painting, with its fresh colours, clarity, and lively brushwork. Your choice sounds much more appropriate.

Wonderful, soft warm and sunny Michael.

Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to comment. Denise - I do buy in the frames but do my own mounting and I will post the other two in this series.

This would look good even without a frame, Michael! A good painting is always enhanced by a good frame, but it also holds its own without enhancement, and your paintings always hold their own.

Excellent water colour Michael. You paint light and shade with a very nice way. The colours are delicious . The whole painting is full of a happy atmosphere.

This is one of a set of three paintings just completed which will soon be hanging in a bedroom corridor in Loughton. They are small paintings by my usual standards - the chosen frames are rich bronze, wide in profile and 12ins square - very modern looking and really set the paintings off. Its amazing what a good frame can do!!
