I'm a great admirer of Kyffin Williams too - and of this watercolour, which captures the wind and ruggedness of the Welsh countryside.

Yes, very fresh and joyfull painting.

Looks good to me [ even without a mount !]

Lovely - you can feel the fact that it is a windswept spot, probably raining (as it is Wales!), and is a very atmospheric painting. Love the colours and the gung ho approach.

This works really well Michael. Looks as though you went in with the charcoal at speed and your confidence and drawing skills are evident! Love the colours and fresh feel.

It's more than just OK, Michael! It's very vibrant and has a wonderful, subtle atmosphere. I really like the charcoal marks - they unify the painting and hold the balance perfectly.

Lovely painting - it looks rugged and windswept.

Super painting, Michael, with lots of energy and athmosphere. I really like your mark making with the charcoal.

Wow - been out all day getting my daughters nursery ready (baby due just after Christmas and getting really excited now) and am bowled over by the number of kind responses to this posting - I truly didn't expect it - thank you all so very much it is so much appreciated and is so encouraging. I certainly enjoyed painting it as you say Kay and I love the term 'gung ho' as you suggest Thea - you are both so absolutely correct. Thanks again everyone.

Fantastic energy in this. Love the feel of moving grasses that you managed to convey on the sloping hillsides, :)

Same as you, I have been out all day so I am a bit late seeing this and it seems all as been said.------ so I will just say-- a little bit of magic work

It's more than okay Michael! Every mark has something to say, positive, adventure and most of all, enjoyment! Love it.

Thanks Sarah, Charles and Fiona - I am encouraged to work more in this style in the future

Hi Michael, thanks for the kind comments about my latest painting. I haven't been on the site for weeks and seemed to have missed so much (so busy!). I have looked at your website and am very impressed. I like your watercolours, a medium I'm still coming to terms with. I agree with many of the comments here. Happy painting!

Lovely fresh spontanoius sketch, I like this.

A joy of a painting. Diolch.

This is stunning, Michael!! Love the spontaneity of this and the limited use of colours!! Sorry for the late comment, we had a few days off and I am trying to catch up with about 25 pages. Working backwards, it seems like a full time job! Glad I didn't miss this!

Thanks for your comment on my work. I am a great admirer of your work - especially the above. 'a bit of this and that'. Some don't regard this as a pretty style but it sure is fun isn't it? And the effect is great - full of atmosphere!

Watercolour with a bit of this and a bit of that - charcoal, white acrylic ink, pastel. I love the work of Kyffin Williams as you can probably tell. Another one of those free and easy spare moment pictures trying something a bit different that often turn out ok. I hope this one did - looks ok with a mount...........!
