Hi Martin, I didn't know you were here as well. Your usual unique atmospheric, even brooding, style. The clouds in this one are really effective when recalling the history attached to this. They look like the wages of war storming up from the horizon and tearing down on the castle, colliding with the turmoil below. You always get so much energy into your paintings, and so much story telling with such an economy of brush strokes and colour. I don't know how you do it and I'm so impressed. Love looking at your work.

Distinctive style and very interesting piece...

You've done it again Martin.....I agree with everything Lala has said, there is such power and mood conveyed by your style. I know the subject quite well, I hale from Derbyshire and have walked many a mile around Castleton & the Peak district.

Hello Lala! Yes, I lurk on here too, but I don't like the format of POL - it's very hard to keep track of other people and their work and there's no easy way to send someone a message. In that sense I much prefer Facebook or Redbubble. I'll have a look for your gallery shortly... Thank you Yu! Glad you like it and my style... Hello again Fiona - that's very kind of you to say, especially as you so obviously know the area. Thank you all! Martin www.cobbybrook.co.uk

It would be nice to jump inside your mind when I'm painting next Martin!

Hello James! You wouldn't want to go there. Really. Very messy and untidy and even I have been known to get lost when it's dark... ;-)

The imposing ruins of Peveril Castle overlook the village of Castleton in the Derbyshire Peak District. The keep was built by Henry II in 1176, making the castle one of the earliest Norman fortresses in England. Now in the care of English Heritage. Mixed media. 15" x 22"
