A touch of John Piper here - I particularly like the parts where you've suggested, rather than spelled out, the detail, eg the steps in the foreground, the pinnacle on the left. I don't envy you the audience ... but it's probably good for you (so long as you don't get the all too frequent "wouldn't give it house-room/my five year old could have drawn that" which, assuming artists to be stone deaf, annoying Gawd-help-us bystanders tend to mutter to each other. Reserve a very wet brush, and an indelible paint, just for them...).

Thanks Robert - a true complement! Piper has been a big influence on my art.

I've enjoyed looking through your plein air gallery and this is my favourite - I've had many day trips to Bolton Abbey and painted the ruined priory and river with it's stepping stones which hasn't changed since Turner painted it.

Drawing made 'plein air' yesterday at the ruined priory at Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire Dales. I had a small group of people stood over me whilst doing both these pieces - no pressure then!! Pen and ink, watercolour, ink wash, wax resist and oil pastel on 300gsm watercolour paper. 15" x10"
