I can't help myself - your paintings give me such joy that I want to comment on every one of them - but restrain myself from boring you. These colours are just wonderful. How long did it take to paint (and how long to walk?) or should one not ask that question of a famous artist?

This is one of my favourites from your gallery. The colours are wonderful! How much do you charge for autographs? :)

Gorgeous work. I have no idea why the colours work so well, but they do.

@Sian - thank you so much! Please feel free to comment as much (and as many times) as you like. Comments, positive and negative, are crucial to helping me hone what I do! I have to confess that I'm guilty of not commenting enough on other people's work - I just don't have enough time in the day (poor excuse, I know). Most of my paintings take around 30 minutes to paint and this was no exception - even for quite a sizeable canvas (50cm x 100cm). I find that if I spend too long 'fiddling' then I lose the freshness. ++++++++++++++++++++++++ @Loiuse - thank you very much! I'm glad that this latest piece is your favourite as it suggests that I'm improving with each painting (hopefully!) Glad you like my colour choices. And as for an autograph, well I've been accused of not charging anywhere near enough for my paintings, so I wouldn't know where to begin ;-) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ @Catherine - thank you very much! Most of my acrylic paintings are painted with just three colours - yellow ochre, crimson red and ultramarine - plus black and white. from these basic primaries I mix all my colours, often mixing actually on the canvas whilst painting with the knife. I think they work together partly due to the fact that they are all related through mixing. I have to confess that most of the time I paint in 'auto-pilot' and allow my subconscious to mix and match colours, so I might struggle to recreate any particular colour! +++++++++++++++++++Thank you all so much - truly appreciated! Martin

Thanks, for this, Martin. 30 mins - wow! And reading about the colours was most helpful.

No problem at all Sian. By the way, I don't post all my work here on POL - the best place to see my work and interact is via my Facebook page - search for Martin Williamson (cobbybrook) or use this link: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Martin-Williamson-cobbybrook/106242293983

Fabulous atmospheric work Martin!

There's something primeval about much of your landscape work - as if the land is still in the process of formation. I think the hot colours - although of course you also use much colder ones - may help with that. And the dramatic skies.

Sunlight catches the peak of Penyghent in the Yorkshire Dales. The climb up the hill following the stream from Nether Hesleden towards Penyghent Gill is tough-going, but the surprise view of the peak is well worth it. Acrylic applied by painting knife on canvas. 20" x 39" (50cm x 100cm)
