Oil and acrylic

Comments

I think the one on the right is oil but I'm sure you are going to tell me I'm wrong. Very good exercise as they are both good, I prefer the one on the right.

I won’t tell you yet, Denise.

Tricky. I think the one on left has more blending of the cloth, suggesting it is the oil. Then again, on the right, the handling of the lemon skin and the addition of the goblet seem to show more confidence, suggesting that is the oil. On balance I will say the oil is on the right.

Interesting to hear the reasoning.

I don't really have a clue which medium they are, but I like them both.

Lewis, you’re chickening out.

Both are lovely. I found it hard to tell between the two but I’m going to guess that the oil painting is the one on the left due to the texture on the lemom. It looks more like oil to me and the lemon on the right looks more like acrylic.

Phew, that’s a tricky one Marjorie as they are both excellent examples. My money is on the left being in oils only because of what the right one is painted on, if I’m right it’s on paper……the one on the left is on something more substantial, and has been gessoed…..more reverence shown to your oils! Lol Of course I could be completely wrong!

Fiona, both have been gessoed, both are on card but the card on the right has a sort of lined pattern. Not telling yet.

Lol…in that case, I haven’t a clue! Actually, I’ve just spotted something …… Can I revise my guess? I’ve just noticed that lovely turquoise colour that you invested in, in the righthand one. Arrrrrhhhh!

Wow that is tricky. I use acrylics alot and don't know. Both beautiful. Emmm I think the one with cup is acrylic? 😬

Oo it's hard. I always think acrylic paint colours seem more smack you in the face than oil . Oils have a richer feel.Probably wrong but oil on the right

I prefer the one on the right, maybe that is the oil as it is easier to blend. Left one is well done also.

I’m loving this 😂

We are all on tenderhooks Marjorie 😂

And there you will stay, Carrie,…..for a little longer😉

This is so much fun, I can't wait to find out.

Fiona was right that I’d invested in a rather expensive turquoise ( oil)…..but I’ve got a lovely acrylic turquoise as well….

One on the right is oil. Just a guess based on the sharpness of detail. .

Hope you all don’t dream about lemons tonight….night night.

They’re both painted thinly so it’s not easy… but I’ll take an uneducated punt at the right one being oils!

Just a little longer, Alan, then I’ll come clean.

Super, both are excellent, no guesses! But if I had to I'd say the oil is the one on the left.

I really would like to know 😁

They are both excellent paintings Marjorie, I’m not at all sure of which one is done in oil. Are you being sneaky and both are oil, or none are , I would go for the right hand one if I had to don’t know why .

I think the painting with the cup is in acrylic and the other in oil. Both beautifully painted with such liveliness Marjorie.

Marjorie you are a such a tease with your lemons! Both great little paintings, I keep changing my mind as to which one is 'oil' but I'm leaning towards the one on the left, I can be so decisive when I want to be!

Ok, here we go…first of all, I enjoyed painting the oil more than the acrylic, the paint covered the surface better. As Alan said, it was fairly thin paint but this was because it was small and I wanted detail. Have you got another half an hour to spend? No? To continue…5 got it right, 8 got it wrong and one sat on the fence. Congrats to Carrie, Faye, Heather, Carole and Russell🥳🥳🥳 . Thanks for all the good humour, it was a bit of fun.

Haha 😄 phew got it right. 🥳 thanks for keeping us waiting. Both lovely paintings 🖼

I really am no expert in either medium but I like the detailed one on the right best then again both are very good Marjorie;)

They are both stunning, Marjorie. I was drawn to one with the cup, the lemon on that one looks more Knobbly on the skin, like the ones in the supermarket that nobody picks up!

I probably would have said the one on the right because I liked the painting better - good exercise and fun.

Thank you, Carole, Ellen and Maureen😁

Aaahhh. Wrong. Should have trusted my gut instinct rather than overthinking it. But, as many others have said, they are both good. PS I definitely prefer your acrylic lemon peel though.

Ha ha ha! In the “ flesh” they both hold their own. The “ daily painting” workshop at the club, that was planned today, didn’t go ahead as there was still no electricity🤨

I think they are, Gudrun.

2 small paintings, each 6”x6”. One in acrylic, one in oil. I prefer using oil. Can you guess which is which?
