February’s Challenge

Comments

Both are superb Marjorie, you are a very talented artist.

The second one has worked out really well! It’s striking. The colours in the first one are very subtle - I would have found those hard to mix. It’s lovely! I’m not sure which painting it’s from though..

I’ve been looking at the left one on the forum just now Marjorie, I think Jenny has come up with the answer….she’s quick! Both are super and I can’t believe how much detail you are getting in the size they are, they look much larger.

Great detail in both paintings- particularly the one on the right on his helmet

Excellent Marjorie.

Must have missed these on the forum. One on left is from Hockney's Ossie Clark double portrait. Flummoxed by the one on the right. Excellent work Marjorie.

Very impressive paintings Marjorie

I don’t know what the challenge is but I love those highlights of the right Such s strong piece of work

Thanks for the comments everyone. The POL challenge is to paint a small section of a famous painting, others to guess. I’m really enjoying this.😁

These are fab. The one on the right looks a bit Rembrandts the Night watch to me but I don’t think it is.

As I watched you paint the image on the right (not giving the game away as to who painted it!), I couldn't believe how you managed to portray such a small part of the original painting so quickly. Just brilliant. I know where the first image comes from but maybe I'm not allowed to say .....!!! I also think that's fab!

Just realised someone has mentioned Hockney so the secret's out!

Ha ha, yes….Man in Armour (Rembrandt) and the other from Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy ( Hockney).

Amazing how accomplished these are on such a tiny scale. A very interesting challenge. If I had been home I would have had a go. Recognised the Hockney but not the Rembrandt.

Wow so clever. Love them both and the detail on such a small painting 🖼

Both fabulous work

Super work.

Well, have seen the answers. These are SO good Marjorie, both are superb examples of colour blending and a minimal colour palette

Both very well done Marjorie on such a small scale.

The Rembrandt is in the Glasgow Art Gallery but it's authentication is disputed.

They’re both fabulous, Marjorie.

They look good together, Marjorie, the blue/brown combination is lovely.

Thank you everyone for all your lovely supportive comments!

Brilliant work Marjorie, the highlights on the helmet are really well done.

Thank you very much Denise🙂

Really impressive paintings Marjorie. I particularly like the Hockney.

Linda, When I was doing my little bit of Hockney I realised how much I loved the colours - very soft and subtle.
