sketch re worked!

They are both beautiful, Louise. I was just about to log out when I saw this re-worked one. Personally, I prefer the less flamboyant first one. No offense I hope, but here the attention is taken away from the main subject. Of course, this is my opinion! Anyway, well done!

Thanks Mia. I'm undecided as to which one works the best but as it's only a quick sketch and not, in this instance, too important to me, it honestly doesn't really matter! (I can take it !) Here, I should possibly have left the dark area on the right in a paler colour (especially as it's a window (lol) but it's all a learning curve and I enjoyed painting it for a change. More complicated paintings can cause me too much stress :)

On balance I much prefer the first one as the calm background and surroundings allows the beauty of the table to shine through. With this one there is a lot going on around the table which makes it harder to pick out it's shape. Both are really good examples of immediate painting and work well, but for me - the first one wins.

You do realize don't you Thea, that now I'm going to have another go at this subject (lol) Actually, I'd already decided to this morning to try again. I'm not going to let this scene beat me!

I like this Louise, the shadows give depth.

I like it, but did prefer the first version - which was simpler and more direct, somehow.

It's a different look and appealing in its own context, but I too prefer the first one. It's still very instructional, though, on how one can achieve different looks with one scene, and as such, it's never a waste. Thank you for sharing your thought process and its results.

Many thanks Carole, Robert and Seok. Robert, unfortunately the first one is now just a memory (lol) Seok, we're learning all the time. Even though it was just a fairly quick sketch, I felt that the alterations were worth it. Sometimes it works and if not, as happened here, well there's always next time. ( I'd advise against brown carpets though, they show all the crumbs)....

I prefer the first one too, but both lovely paintings.

Ok I'll avoid brown - but our laminated floors can be a bit noisy and not very warm in the chill of winter - I do like both versions of this painting - both have great spontaneity

I much prefer this one but both are very nice :)

Thanks Glennis, Michael and Sarah.

Hi Louise - I'm going to go against the grain and say I prefer the second version, I find it more interesting - ok maybe a bit busy but I thought this makes it more dynamic??

This is a re worked version of the painting that I posted earlier. The problem with having magnolia walls and rather a beige coloured house is that any paintings of it's interior can look a little dull and lifeless! I've added more colour and pattern to liven the place up :)
