Yellow!

Yellow!
Comments

I did mention one yesterday when commenting on Fiona's painting, so you are quick off the mark! These people look like they have been caught in a strobe light or some sort of fancy lighting at a gig - great idea for using acid yellow to depict this. Looks super with the blue, but can you do one with no other colour than yellows - there's a challenge!!

Can't Thea, tried and failed... After painting with this acidic yellow I rather feel as though I've been caught in that strobe lighting..LOL

Not an easy colour to work with, I haven't had a go yet using just yellow. I think the biggest challenge will be thinking up a subject to paint, not the actual painting.

Great effort at a difficult challenge Louise.

Yellow is a hideous colour to work with on its own, and not a lot easier with just one other colour - I congratulate you for producing a painting which stands up in its own right and not just as an experiment. I don't think I shall be following you on this road, however - I remember a quote from Hesketh Hubberd - "yellow is a colour that sullies very easily": Hesketh old lad, you were quite right; use it full strength and it's invariably too brash, tone it down a bit and you tend to get left with a brownish sludge. Or such has been my experience....

Your party girls look good in any colour Louise, these are great! Off to mix a few yellows myself now!

Absolutely agree Robert. I've realised that I don't actually use lot of yellow in my paintings. Naples yellow I like for initial washes but the more acidic yellows are usually untouched until this morning. I hope you try it for yourself Fiona. Just paint anything. You'll find that it's harder than it sounds. A choice of subject is the easy part. As Robert's quote says, you get a horrid brown shade if you try and tone it down and it doesn't work at all on it's own. It's not for me anyway as you can tell. I actually dislike the more acidic yellows and using one here confirmed that for me!

Well very good luck Christine, you might need it.. I'm really looking forward to seeing it so don't chicken out. What made me say 'chicken' then?..LOL

They are dancing around the midsummer bonfire. Really good Louise!

Your girls are bathed in sunshine Louise and look as though they are having fun.

Good one Louise, they are all definitely mobile. Got to find my yellows now.

Thank you Satu, Val and Carole, please don't tell us you couldn't find any yellows or that any you have are dried up. I tried that excuse on myself but it didn't work!!!

The aliens have landed, or is James Bond .... or Hammer House of Horror!!?

Quick of the mark with this one and it works really well!

Thank you Dennis, Gudrun (they are aliens, forgot to say, charged with electricity) :) and Debs. I'm not keen on these acidic yellow colours at all but have to try out the challenges. I just hope that Thea comes up with something easier next time round!

'They call it mellow yellow, and I love it' can you remember that old Donovan one Louise?

Those were the days Stephen..the best!

Another piece just buzzing with energy and life, Louise. Lovely work!

Nice work Louise, just up your street would be a yellow submarine with the fab 4 on top. It could be 'who are they' and yellow challenge all in one. Your figure drawing is so good. I'm keeping a low profile, I think that I've stirred up a hornet's nest commenting on Tony's pic, Oh dear!.

Don't worry Alan it's livened up the site. My thoughts are that life drawing should be taken seriously. I've attended many life drawing classes myself though many years ago, I learned a lot. It's an excellent discipline. We have to be able to draw before we can paint. Yellow submarine? I'll let you do that one..LOL
