Trying water-soluble graphite pencils.

Trying water-soluble graphite pencils.

I can't recall a Carolyn, so unable to go back to look, but I do like some of the tones that you have achieved in this sketch Lew. I'm always on the lookout for different materials to try, so am tempted to give these a go. I'll pop a set on my next order to Jackson's, along with the Fisher 400 pastel card that I am also anxious to put through its paces.

Sorry Alan...Carolyn Parkinson posted a water-soluble graphite sketch a few days ago. When I commented she gave me the info on the pencils.

Thanks Lew, I'll have a look at her work later on today.

Fantastic sketch as always. I have tried some water soluble too lewis. But I have only a basic set from derwent , the tones are mot quite as good as yours .

Great use of the water soluble pencils Lew.

Like the intense dark you achieved Lew. Looks really promising. I like the uncertain look on the character's face, as if he's been trying the pencils... (-:

Great use of the graphite pencils and your tonal values. A wonderful character sketch Lewis.

The pencils sound really interesting Lewis, they certainly seem to be working for you, will have to add some to my"Santa" wish list 😁

Thanks to everybody for the great feedback, this pic was just a quick try-out but I'm looking forward to using them again..

It's good to try something new and you have done such a great job of this Lewis. He looks a super character and I like the little frog.

Looking forward to seeing more sketches with these pencils. First attempt has worked well.

Good result, Lew, and I'm sure you'll be producing some more brilliant work soon. You're right about those blacks; they're intense. Very interesting thread and comments, I must say. Good stuff and educational to boot. Bri

Just brilliant Lewis. I use Caran dAche water soluble pencils for all my watercolours as the pencil mark disappears. Also use them for sketching quickly,as you not, great effects with them! Love this drawing!

Thanks again to those who've had a look and commented. I tend to ignore a lot of the 'new' stuff touted by the art shops, but do take notice when they crop up on POL. Luckily I saw Carolyn's sketch with these pencils and she put me wise. Cost me around £8 for the set, AND it included a brush. Can't go wrong.

You’ve achieved some subtle tones here Lewis, good range.

I have tried the Derwent "water" pencils. To me they take a bit of getting used to. Keep having fun with them Lewis, the above is very good.
