That come together really well Lew , superb artwork.

Fabulous characters and artwork, all with such great expressions

Agreed turned out great! So much Detail Lewis. You are so clever 🙂

What a crew! Such interesting characters Lew, and very original.

Love your groups of odd characters, always such a lot of detail to look at.

A great array of characters- so interesting to look at each one and see all the details.

It's all come together and the characters look great.

And a bunch of great characters it is Lewis, in your great style.

Curious indeed. Star Wars in Wonderland perhaps. Unplanned but a great result.

Lewis in Wonderland. Great stuff. (-:

strong and colourful - if it isn't a trade secret , Lewis , what mediums are you using here ?

Wonderful array of characters.

Thank you all very much for your comments, very much appreciated. Mike, it was drawn with a black waterproof pen, light washes of watercolour on the figures, when dry I added shading with water-soluble Faber coloured pencils, background watercolour, I got into a mess with the grass and went over that with gouache. Probably pushing my luck in a sketchbook, but if I don't drench it with water I mostly get away with it. Should have used watercolour paper, but I like sketchbooks.

Wonderful!!! Looking through your sketchbooks would be a fabulous experience Lewis, I so admire your skills and imagination, marvelous work.

Superb imagination and characters Lewis.

As Alice said ‘Curiouser and curioser’ but fantastic characters wonderfully designed and drawn. Great work Lewis.

Thanks for the info , Lewis , - nice to know that you also use what is needed , to achieve what was wanted

'tis a great illustration Lewis. Brilliant !

I echo everyone’s comments, Lewis - you have masses of talent.

This went the way of a lot of stuff in my sketchbooks. Thought I'd draw some odd characters, they were looking at something, decided to spread to the next page and have them looking at Alice. So, not really planned, just a bunch of characters.

About the Artist

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
