Interesting watercolour. I thought Lowry as soon as I saw it.

Yes, so did I. I love narrative paintings like this, they say so much and set your imagination turning. The child who has taken it on himself to conduct and lead the band is a wonderful touch!

Thank you for taking the time to comment Carole, and I'm pleased I was sort of on the right road. I read up on Lowry before I started, a fascinating man and his paintings said so much about him and his time. I liked the fact that he didn't like shadows so just didn't paint them! Lowry observed and painted the people and towns of his time, and I painted the people and village of my time. And the lighting here in Spain is quite different to that in UK, but we had to use his five colours, which was a very interesting exercise in itself.

Oh well done Ruth, I love your comments thank you. There's always one child isn't there!! :~))

The five colours included black and white so you really only had three colours to play with, yellow ochre, napthol red and prussian blue.

This painting shouts of personality, character and action! It's so very engaging!

Thank you Seok Yam, a valued comment coming from an artist like yourself whose paintings show such an observant eye and expressive hand.

Roll over Lowry.

Oh Sylvia, I had such a laugh when I read your comment. He probably would too, in horror. Thanks for making my day. :~))

What an interesting challenge. I love the little dogs on the left. Interesting to see it done from a different country's perspective.

It was a very interesting challenge Diana, and I'm slowly gathering more scenes from my village to paint in a Lowry style, but there are so many things I want to paint - and not enough time! But I'm sure during the darker winter months that the Lowry style will cry out to be done.

Water colour on SAA 300gms NOT practice paper 40cm x 30cm. The web site "painting.about.com" have a monthly painting project and October's was to do a painting in the style of LS Lowry, using Lowry's five colours. This was my effort (my 4th watercolour), it was great fun and I learnt a lot. I called this The Green Doors. I think the local Builder's Merchant had a special offer on green paint!! There are no prizes but you get a professional critique and encouragement and it's a great exercise
