This is not too loose at all. I think it is full of spontaneity. The elephants look so joyful and lively. You did a very good job on that. Should do more!!!

I love the fact there is interaction between the elephants it makes for a good composition. I like this style well done.:) Linda

Thank you Mia and Linda so much for stopping to have a look at this and taking the time to post your helpful and encouraging comments. I was inspired by Jack Vettriano's painting of "The Billy Boys", I do love his work. I'm working on two bigger versions in watercolour, (slightly different as they a free drawn), and what a difference the surface makes. One is on a piece of paper, very expensive, not too rough but very heavy like cardboard that was kindly given to me so I don't know whose make it is and I'm not getting on with it at all well. The other is on odd paper that I bought in our local Lydls shop here in Spain and is in fact cotton canvas but said it could be used for all types of mediums?? There's no information as to maker etc, It's like canvas, accepts watercolour, and I actually love painting on it. The only problem is that the washes keep disappearing through the canvas weave. LOL. At least I think I'm cured of wanting to paint on the very expensive very heavy paper.

Beautiful watercolour representation of the three, only comment is I don’t see any dust! Speaking from personal experience, (grew up in central Africa) big boys like theses make a lot of dust. About you cotten canvas, take a look at: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=393329

Thank you David for your comment, and I'll check out the link for cotton canvas, so thanks for that. I take on board your comment regarding dust, you're quite right of course, though I suppose it does depend on how hard the ground is. But yes, each footprint was accompanied by a puff, or cloud, of dust, so I'll incorporate that into the bigger compositions that I'm still working on. Central Africa? You don't mean Rhodesia do you? :~))

This is my 6th watercolour, a sketch for something larger that I hope to start this week. I was trying for loose but I think I got a bit too loose? This is 38cm x 27, not sure of the paper, found a small stack of it underneath other watercolour paper, but at least it's not printing paper! I should be grateful for any help please
