What a lovely calm and peaceful scene this is. Love the water with the moon reflecting off it.

really lovely water reflections well done

I like this picture a lot, so serene, not easy to paint moonlight.

I would have sworn, if pressed, that this was a landscape in oil - around here (arr, me dear!) the Black Gang would prowl the coast, smuggling brandy and other goods, and wrecking the odd ship in the bay. Tragically, they don't do that now, hence the high price of brandy in the local Londis.... but this reminds me - well, puts me in mind, since I'm not THAT old - of them. Ooo-arrr, and, indeed, ooo-arr. Shiver me timbers, etc. A highly evocative painting.

Your painting is quite amazing in its treatment of night and the moon! One can certainly sense Robert's Black Gang lurking ready in the shadows....does make you shiver. Clever and very effective use of colour too.

Beautiful moonlight, captured so well.

Lovely atmospheric painting with a beautiful painting of the light

Whenever I'm filled with self doubt and feel I'm never going to be any good (which is most of the time) fellow artists pick me up, inspire me and put me on my feet again. Thank you all for taking a look and posting such generous and encouraging comments. You've really set me up for the next try. Robert, me hearty lad, I'm sure there'll be a bot'le or more on board and something to chew on too. So row on over me ol' duck!

Wonderful feeling about your picture, Lala, but I'd like to make a couple of points if I may. The brightest reflections are not aligned under the moon, are they and I can't quite decide on the angle of the shadows of the masts in relation to the position of the moon. Shouldn't they be pointing to the moon ? Dare I suggest a little rim lighting on the top edge of the boat, as well ? Please accept my comments as intended.

Hi Bill, thank you for commenting on my painting. I'm a bit confused though. Maybe I've got the reflections of the moon wrong, but I was painting the light from the moon at an angle, not coming straight towards the viewer. And I sort of feel that the shadows of the mast would be thrown away from the moon not towards it? If you stand with the moon or sun in front of you, your shadow is normally behind you, isn't it? Good point about the rim lighting on the top edge of the boat, well suggested. Only thing problem is, the painting is pastel and now framed. :~))

Hi, Lala. As the water is, obviously, level then the reflection must surely be the strongest immediately beneath the moon, wherever the viewer is, mustn't it ? Regarding the shadows of the masts, sure they are falling away from the moon, but must still be in alignment with the moon. Hope you see what I mean. Anyway, Lala, as I said earlier, I still feel your picture has a wonderful mood about it. Sorry about the mis-understood comments. Perhaps its my Lancashire accent getting in the way.
