What fun. I love your colours and that the only curve is on the sun. I too have had a go at abstract (well, semi) on my own using gut-feeling not guidance. And through your description I have discovered ask.com so I am off there now to learn from them. Thank you.

Hi Sian, thank you for your comments. I love the colours on this abstract, they make me happy so I've put it up on my wall where it cheers me up on the cold, dark, dull, damp days that we're having here in Spain - at least where I live. The website that I go to and learn from and get a monthly newsletter from is about.com, not ask.com, but I'm sure you found them. The site is run by the New York Times and they cover just about every subject a person could want to know about. The art site is run by a professional artist who lives in the Shetland Islands. Have a great time exploring. :~)))

I love abstract and love this one. The colours are soooo attractive and the shapes are well displayed in the building of the painting.

Thank you Beatrice for stopping by to comment. I've not tackled an abstract before and after the initial "help! where do I start" I found myself getting really involved and truly enjoyed reducing everything down to geometric shapes and putting colours together. Told a couple of friends here in our valley about the project and they decided to have a go and they got as much pleasure out of it as I did. It's really interesting to move out of your comfort zone sometimes.

Well, I was so inspired by your abstract with its helpful photo attached, Lala, that I have just submitted one myself - and just posted it here. I hope your friends will share their abstracts too.

Well done Sian, brilliant. I had a look at your submission on about.com and think you have it spot on. Great bold colours, great shapes. :~))

Opaque watercolours on 90gms HP, 30cmx21cm. I've never had any interest in abstract paintings until "about.com's" April project which was to paint a geometrical abstract in any medium. Kept walking away from it but finally thought I'd have a go. I'm not knowledgeable about the rules of geometric abstract painting so I've probably broken all of them and I know there's probably heaps wrong with it, but I loved ever minute of it. I think I'm a closet abstract painter about to come out.
