I love the idea and the direction of the scene. A very lively painting. I'm not certain about the absolute centre though; whether it's her back, her face or what. I feel it woudl have been better as the top of her hair.

That is the top of her hair, isn't it? Jx

Thank you both for your comments, and for taking the time to make them. Yes Jean, it is the top of her hair. You are looking down on her, she has a bun at the back of her head on the right and the light is just catching the tip of her nose on the left. The movement at the moment of painting has her just as she is about to finish a fast spin, with her right hand above her head and her left hand behind her back about waist level. It was quite tricky to depict as she came out of my head and I had no reference photo to work from. Viewers ask the question,'Is it a poppy? Oh no, it's a dancer', which is what I was hoping would be the reaction. I shall have to retitle it, and if I do it again I shall make her bigger and need to be more clear about how I paint the top of her head.

Hi Angela thank you so much for your wonderful comments on my gallery which is because of the heat here in Australia at a standstill. I love this and the whole concept of the painting...at first I thought it was an open rose similar to one we have just outside out front door but then when looking at the painting I realised it was a dancer too!!! Beautiful painting with wonderful imagination

Fascinating. On the 'small' image it looks like a flower, but on the comments (this) page it is clearly a dancer. I like your imagination. Thanks for your kind comment on 'Old Roses'.

Thank you Patsy and Lynda for taking the time and trouble to comment on this painting. I need to give it a bit more thought if I do it again, because a lot of people who have seen it have been confused. Although the point was to have people give it a moment's thought and not just walk passed it. . :~))

Yes I see the hair and the bun which appear dark blonde yet the hair swirling around is black. That's what threw me. As a thumbnail I saw a poppy but in the full picture it's very clearly a dancer. Thank you so much for your comments on my poppies, not a bit like this one LOL
