Kim here's an very interesting watercolour from you! And it is a super little piece, love the details and positioning of the body, your great use of the washes mean you have not needed to render any details of what he is abseiling on, lovely light and shade

You've just captured the movement in this. Wonderful feel.

I love this. One could almost get vertigo it's so real.

The very, very last place you'd ever find me, with or without ropes, harnesses, and every safety device obtainable. Brilliantly captured, not only in terms of movement and composition but also in colour - this looks like snowy mountain terrain (and Gudrun is quite right about the feet!).

You don't know what you're missing out on Robert. It's quite the most exhilarating sensation imaginable. If no cliff face is visible it's because the there isn't one: the technique is to kick out and away from the wall, descending as you swing free. Once down, you simply pull one of the rope ends (it's always a double rope) until the whole thing slips off the anchor. Technicalities aside, thanks for taking the time to look and comment!

I'm with Robert on this one, you won't catch me doing that but what an exciting painting it makes. Brilliant.

Writing as one of the first women to freefall parachute in the UK, I think I would prefer to do that than abseil from a great height! Excellent atmosphere and you can almost feel a loose shower of fine snow falling onto your face as you hang below this figure.

Super watercolour Kim, fresh, lively and a good feeling of movement. I'm afraid I'm with Robert though, I once had to abseil off a tower on an 'adventure' course, never again!

I'm with Val and Robert on this one -I'll pass thank you, but I do love your painting Kim!

As Charles says - it is all about the attitude of the body - and you got this chap's attitude just right. Perfectly describes exactly what he is doing even although the mountain and surroundings are only hinted at. Another superb piece of work, Kim.

Congratulations Kim - chosen again for the July gallery page! Well merited.

Great painting! I love it

Oh I love this one - superb use of watercolour and excellent subject - very tense

Abseiling is the technique of roping off a mountain to descend quickly into the void. It comes from the German "ab" (down/off) + "seil" (rope). In our Health-'n-Safety conscious era it's done with all sorts of modern wizardry and ironmongery, but in more innocent times you simply wrapped the rope over your shoulder and under your thigh - quick, easy and effective - like this chap.
