Lovely colours in the sails. great painting.

Gorgeous scene Kim, lovely colours and tones in the boats sails and in the sea

What a good idea Kim. You have interpreted the photo very well and retained the Victorian feel.

That distinctive use of colour! It's very effective.

Beautiful! You make it look so easy......

So glad you have done a boat painting. I love doing boat paintings but mine don't get close to the inspiration of this one. Everything about is right and the colours are superb. I would love to see your process of producing a painting - ever thought of producing a video for the POL site as some others have done?

So beautiful as always Kim!

It's fun to paint from sepias because the sky's the limit as far as colours are concerned. Just splash them on and see where they take you... For that reason I couldn't possibly do a video Thea: I'm far too impetuous!

Beautiful colour in those sails, I can feel the gust of the wind :)

Hi Kim, and thank you very much for your comment on my work. Your watercolours are brilliant and beautiful, and they display the real strengths of the medium. I really like this one, which seems to be a less common subject for you. Interesting idea to work black and white into colour. It doesn't look like you were between inspirations, although this can sometimes lead to good work through a more carefree or experimental approach sometimes.

Betwixt inspirations, I've been watercolouring from some b/w photos in a book called "The Victorians by Sea". It's great practice for the eye and seeing tonal values. This photo's by James Valentine.
