I really like the impressionistic style of this. You can give me some lessons in pastels!

Beautiful painting, Keith - wonderful job with the reflections on the water...

Absolutely beautiful. Envy the beautiful paintings some POL artists do with soft pastel. Just couldn't cope with the dust.

This is beautiful, like Dawn I have just started with pastels so am in the experimental stages at the moment. Its great to see what can be achieved with this medium.

Thank you all for your comments. Soft pastels are a dream to work with and, in good hands can achieve oil-like quality. For those starting out, use thin rubber gloves, a band of stcky tape as ledge on your easel to catch the dust, masks can be used but are a nuisance. There are plenty of good videos about on pastel painting but PASTEL POINTERS by Richard McKinley is hard to beat--and, practice, practice and practice, preferbly on firm sanded surfaces. Hope this nutshell comment helps.

Soft Pastel on Cansons "M-Touch" card, 24 x 30 cm. Shows the quay on the Broye Canal which connects Lake Murten with Lake Neuenburg in N. Switzerland. The steamer docks here and discharges hungry passengers going to the nearby hotel for lunch. Painted on-site around lunch time, passsengers having departed a half hour before to get a place. Difficult to paint reflections when a big boat is churning up the water so I chose this peaceful moment on a beautiful early Autumn day. Blocked in with an alcohol underpaining and then applied layers of very soft pastels to create an impressionistic effect. Signed on the back AKD.
