Thanks for the comments gents. I appreciate it. The tree is still in the field by the way, although it is looking a bit lonely. The rest of the hedgerow was grubbed up. There are loads of these mature specimens in the Lichfield area.

I love the fence and green ditch area too - they elevate the painting from the generic to the specific

Agree with Adebanji. It is very beautiful in its simplicity. I love sketching trees to, so appreciate this one all the more perhaps.

It may be simple but it is a great painting.

A simple Tree-study in watercolour, on Saunders Waterford, 300lb; using only a Fanbrush and a Rigger. The fan was used on edge for the main tree parts and as a 'fan' for the foliage. The rigger for the 'branches' of course. Done mainly to see if it worked.
