I like the foreground the way it is; the simplicity of the piece is its beauty.

Beautiful work. I love the bold shapes alongside that lovely wet in wet work.

Really like the lines and colours you've used, it is very lovely in its simplicity

I agree with Sarah ref the foreground Jenny, perhaps doesn’t need anything in that part of the painting. You’ve got some gorgeous shapes and colours, there is a rhythmic flow around the painting.

Thanks very much Sarah, Diana, Heather and Fiona for your positive, encouraging comments. I think my initial disappointment with this was that I’d planned so carefully what I wanted the end result to look like (something I don’t often do) and it turned out so differently!

I like it. Works very well, my focus is on the bridge. Love this style.

Really like that style, and the colours.

I agree with the others, more work on the foreground would district form the viaduct and be at odds with the elegant simplicity of the whole.

Fab painting Jenny , it’s lovely , I like the contrasts of the greens .

Beautiful work.

Thanks very much Lewis, Richard, Tony, Gillian and Denise for your welcome comments!

Have to agree with Diana's comment, it's beautiful

Thank you, Thalia!

There’s a cheerfulness about this image that I like, Jenny. I see a flavour of Brian Cook about it though rather brighter than his work. (Cook on steroids?) He invented a technique that allowed him to design and illustrate Batford’s travel books on a budget in the thirties in a style uniquely his own.

Thanks, Frank! I’m not familiar with Brian Cook’s work, will look him up. A few paintings of this scene that I’ve done previously were likened to travel posters, the simple style of which I really like, although they weren’t a conscious influence.

I’ve painted this local scene numerous times, but thought I’d take this one slowly as I had plenty of time but, fairly predictably, ended up overworking it! I was about to bin it when I thought I’d try going over it with my Neocolour II pastels , which, although the colours are rather harsh, surprisingly made a big difference when I stopped being too careful! The foreground is a bit uninspiring - I had meant to add collage but that didn’t work out either.
