I would have put a wash of yellow over Jenny. The shapes are interesting.

Well done Jenny! I hope to have a go at the weekend.......I like your design, hope I can get some ideas.lol

Thanks, John and Fiona. (Fiona, this wasn't really designed, it just kind of fell together as I was rushing to get something down before the acrylic dried - and then I forgot to take the masking tape off before I printed it! )

Lovely fern impressions Jenny, well done for having a go!

OK, so apart from the red bits you have managed to get some good shapes, it does get easier I promise, well done for having a stab at it Jenny.

I don't know anything about this technique but you have me interested to look it up. I know that if there is an opportunity to make a fearsome mess, I'll make the most of it. I really like the fern outlines. Diana

And a beauty it is Jenny

Thanks very much Carole, Alan, Diana and Dennis. (Diana, if you want to have a go at this, look on the forum. Alan recently did a step by step demo of monotype prints for anyone who wanted to have a go at one. Select Latest when you're in the forum and scan down until you find the subject title Monotype Print - WIP.)

Hope you will do some more Jenny because I think you have made a really good start with this one. WhenI use acrylics for painting, I sometimes use a slow drying medium (Daler Rowney) which gives a little bit more working time for blending etc. I wondered if this might help?

Thanks very much Julie. I have tried a couple more since this one and neither has worked out! I think part of the problem may be that I bought a tube of cheap acrylic to practice with and it slips around on the surface a lot and doesn't seem to adhere very well. I am planning to get some proper printing ink later, but in the meantime your suggestion of a slow drying medium would definitely help.

I think it's very promising, Jenny! The shapes are super. But I agree with you - what puts me off printing is the almighty mess that needs to be cleaned after the exercise!

Thanks, Seok. I have tried a few others, but none has been remotely successful, so don't think I'll be doing any more. I have, though, bought some lino cutting materials and will have a go at that, not nearly as messy!

Well, this is my first (and may well be my last!) attempt at a monotype. I had no idea painting on Perspex would be so difficult - I quickly abandoned my attempt to paint some sort of landscape. It didn't help that I was using acrylic which was drying too quickly. I may try again later when I've got some proper printing ink. (The red splodges were my attempt to introduce a bit more colour, but weren't very successful!). At least I've had a go and now just need to clean up the awful mess I
