Piglet (trying Yupo paper)

Piglet (trying Yupo paper)

Strange name for the paper Jenny, but I like the piglet, it has character.

Thanks, John. (If you're not familiar with Yupo, look it up, it's unusual paper, more commonly used in the States than here.)

You did well Jenny, it is very difficult to control (even a little)

Very interesting effect Jenny - I will also look it up as I don't know what it is, although I have heard of it.

Such a cute and colourful piglet Jenny.

Thanks very much Carole, Adele and Sarah, comments appreciated.

I have heard of the paper and seen artists on Art Tutor using it with inks I like your little piglet and think there is just enough control of the paint to give both the pig and background lovely texture. I'm always interested to see how you experiment with new materials. Diana

Thanks Diana, I will definitely try some more of these, probably in watercolour again as they can be wiped off when dry if you want to redo an area, or use the whole sheet again - and because the paints dry on the surface instead of being absorbed by the paper, they do tend to stay bright. I've seen some beautiful, quite detailed, Yupo paintings on the gallery, and wanted to look back at them, but can't remember the artist's name.

This is so cute, love your artwork

Thanks very much, Jenny!

I tried this paper Jenny but couldn't get on with it. It seems to have worked well for you, as this is a super painting and very sweet.

Thanks very much Frank. I also couldn't get on with Yupo when I first tried it, but decided to have another go - it seems to work better for some subjects than others. I normally like to work very methodically and neatly so find it quite a challenge!

This is super, Jenny! Love the wonderful blend of washes, and that piglet is irresistible!

Thanks very much, Seok!

Beautifully vibrant work it's a real eye catcher

Thanks, Dermot!

Absolutely love this, Jenny! Super job on Yupo.. I know how tricky it can be!

Thanks, Heather! Yes, Yupo is very tricky, but despite the frustrations it's somehow compelling to keep trying!

Watercolour on Yupo paper. I've loved the Yupo paintings I've seen on the gallery and thought I'd try some. I absolutely hated it on my first attempt (this is my third!) but once you get used to the idea that you have very little control over the paint and let it do it's own thing, it's quite fun to use, although I've got some way to go to achieve anything as good as some of the others I've seen!
