You’ve captured the rolling clouds Jim, and I like your dark tones. Looks like a great Plein air day at the coast!

Superbly controlled fresh watercolour washes Jem, top work!

Lovely work once again Jem.

Lovely painting. Well done.

Another beautiful watercolour Jem. Your paintings and website are a great inspiration.

Great clouds and the light is spot on, Jem.

Great use of light and shade Jem, and a lovely loose style of painting.

Loose and luminous. Beautiful.

Love the spontaneity and freshness of this Jim.

It's good to see a professional posting here - now that could be horribly misunderstood: in exactly the ways I do not mean. Jem Bowden is a professional artist, he gets plenty of exposure, he doesn't need to show on the gallery here, but he shows nonetheless. I wish more would do that - it gives us a point of comparison, and I think it probably gives other, less capable painters maybe encouragement to show their work alongside the established artists. Arnold Lowry has done it too, and if you're out there, Arnold, come back; the same to Adebanji - I know it's not elitism or the feeling you've moved on, you're better than this; I know it's much more likely to be a matter of time available and where your efforts can be best directed. All the same - it's always good to see those who have made it showing alongside those who are trying to. I do rattle on: this is a fine, fresh watercolour, whose light suffuses the screen. If you ever come down to the Isle of Wight, I'd love to see what you make of our beaches, cliffs and coastline.

Thank you very much for your kind comments, much appreciated. Robert, you raise some interesting points. So very much we could discuss in response! In very brief, though, I'd like to say: All artists (professional or otherwise) are in different situations, and in general we never really know what those are. Some of us are APPALLING at self-promotion and 'sales' stuff. I count myself as THE worst that I know of. I post here perhaps every 6 months or so, to top up my gallery with a few recent paintings. I would say all professional artists, bar VERY few, need continually to do all that they possibly can to get exposure (I was surprised by what you said about me, by the way!) in order to maintain any kind of a subsistence living. If you are business minded, and 'sales' is not virtually tantamount to 'against your religion' (as it is - perversely and hopelessly - in my case!) then you will find life an awful lot easier. I survive, just about. And I have relied methods that do not include paid advertising. I don't want to 'earn' from advertising based methods, either. It's difficult to succeed, if you have scruples, but everyone does need to make a living, somehow. And not many people buy paintings, at least not traditional, representational watercolour originals. Plenty of people want to make it their hobby, and unless there is a real need to be otherwise, I recommend that's how they keep it! Thanks again all, and happy painting.

I've really enjoyed looking at your beautiful paintings over the last few days Jem; I can only agree with other's comments already expressed about your paintings. Superb!

Stunning work - the light and composition are superb.

Beautiful.

Love it, I like all of your paintings though ☺️

A plein air painting from this summer. A very breezy day, so challenging, but to me an inspiring scene, and with wonderful clouds rolling in continually of a sort that I love to paint.
