‘I want to hold your hand’

Comments

The song was written and recorded in 1963 in the basement of Jane Asher’s parents house in Wimpole Street, London. Jane Asher was then Paul McCartneys girlfriend. The style of music for this song was a blend of African American rhythm and blues with West Coast surf music and rock’n’roll. The song became the Beatles first number one in the US and it stayed there for 7 weeks. In the UK it was number one for 5 weeks. The song sold more than a million copies on advanced orders alone. The song established the Beatles into becoming a global phenomenon.

Continuing my Beatles theme this song was recorded in 1963. It was written as a song of innocence when holding hands symbolised an acceptance of being girlfriend and boyfriend. It’s painted in watercolour using wet in wet and wet on dry techniques. I’ve painted this painting in pop art style.
