Thanks everyone - this was me with my son around 33 years ago (the days when so many of us had Princess Di haircuts!). Glad to leave this one behind and due to start on another any day now.

This has probably been the most frustrating portrait to do. I took it from an old black and white photograph, cut and spliced so the two figures were closer. The canvas size is smaller than my usual (30cm x 36cm) so the figures are also smaller. I also have learnt the hard way to check out how well my canvases are primed before I start because this particular Daler Rowney board clearly shouldn't have got past their quality control - very rough and bumpy making is almost impossible to get clear lines.
