Inspired to paint something out of my comfort zone of pinks, blues and lilac, and thought yellow is so vibrant a colour I saw it as a challenge, and everyone loves sunflowers as they're so cheery. This one makes me think of the dawn and it's the only one up to see the sun! Painted in oils, not traditional oils but Griffin Alkyd because they don't take too long to dry; unfortunately I didn't have a bright enough cadmium yellow to brighten it up, but found in my painting box a Rembrandt Cadmium yellow and that did the trick. So vibrant a colour; we must protest about the possible banning by ECHA of CADMIUM for artists, it would change the art world as we see it drastically.
