Thanks everyone, this was another challenge set by our art group (well me actually), to paint something “In the Style of …”. Since we moved our activities to Facebook due to the pandemic, our membership has grown and we are now having to limit membership to our physical meetings, as we can’t get any more people in the room we hire safely.

This is a great portrait, Frank - I love the palette and the bold brush-strokes.

In The Style of … Cézanne. My self portrait is based on his 1881 self portrait. Cézanne, like Manet, wasn’t afraid to use black and would often use brushstrokes in the same diagonal pattern across parts of his work. I’ve tried to recreate the background on his work “in front of olive green wallpaper”. I’ve also used the Zorn palette for the actual portrait, which I feel is pretty much the kind of palette he would have used. Acrylic 8x10 inch on HP Bristol board paper
