Rough or not I like it too Fiona, luvly jubbly. There are some nice bright colours in this, is that the influence of your pastels I wonder or Cezannes :)

I said Cezanne the moment I looked at this piece Fiona. Looks like colour is growing on you. Well done.

Yes it is the influence of her pastels Val but Fiona may not be so aware of it.

Definitely a look of Cezanne to this. The stylised look adds to the appeal . Really nice.

I agree with you all. Stylish piece. Shall we be seing bright watercolours now?

You have the colours, shapes and shading to a tee Fiona. Talented person.

Lovely painting Fiona definitely see that Cezanne influence

Thank you Ivan! Lol Val...yes, I think the use of pastels is definitely making a difference to my colour choices but a little of a Cezanne influence too.....I just bought a book on the very man! Thanks John! Yes there is no mistaking a Cezanne 'style' is there. I went straight in with the brush and outlined the subject with the Phthalo blue in the palette...which I quite like where it shows through. I think Cezanne used ultra marine for his sketching out colour. I wonder if it's my age John, this colour 'thing', you know, like when women start to buy and wear gold shoes/sandles!lol Apologies to ladies out there that wear said footwear, nothing personal.

Thank you very much Andre. I don't usually like very many paintings I do but I really liked this one....shame I did it on cheap paper and I know if I try it again, it won't work. Oh I don't know about that Gudrun, I still like my dull, boring watercolours....lol but I'm not as afraid of colour as I once was. Thank you. Michael you are very kind, no talent involved just a copy really...thank you. Thanks very much Dennis!!

Cezanne Phipps got a ring to it hasn't it and you certainly have rung the changes well done Fiona very nice

Thank you David.....X

What a great Cezanine Fiona...Its worked so well .

Looks simple,but i couldnt do it..nice one.

Beautiful fresh colours Fiona, and love this style with the objects outlined, reminds me also of the Scottish Colourists. (I started out using W&N watercolours, then Daler Rowney, but now mainly use Daniel Smith - if you want some really exciting colours, have a look at their range on the Ken Bromley website.)

Nicely done Fiona, nice colours, I have always had a small W/N field box of half pans in my rucksack but as they got worn out I simply filled the spaces with the appropriate W/N tube colour and let it solidify, have had it for years and apart from being very grubby and scratched it is as solid as ever and has been everywhere with me on my travels. Keep going with the colour (in some cases) .

This definitely is Cezanne's style, Fiona. Well done, except for the choice of paper. I learned by mistake never to try something new on scrap paper. It is always regretable if the work turnes out to be rather pleasing!

Nice one Fiona,

A hint of Paul Cezanne here Fionna, a bold powerful and confident painting.

Many thanks Sylvia, Peter, Dennis, Jenny, Mia, Malcolm, Davis, Guy for your inspiring comments, good advice ref. paint and paper...we live and learn. Thank again X

A beauty Fiona, love the bright colours.

Love this one Fiona, first class work, well impressed.

Thank you Margaret....yes bright for me! lol Alan, thank you very much, I take that as a huge compliment.

Fab, bold line work and colour Fiona!

Thanks Helen, Louise very much.

I've been away for a bit and missed this, Fiona. I've always marvelled at how powerful simplicity is in creating an image - although personally I think I get carried away somewhat with detail (a carry over maybe from my love of photography as well). You've captured a vibrancy in the colour, shading, and shapes that others have mentioned that goes to the very essence of Cezanne - well done, Fiona.

I love the luminous glow of this piece, Fiona! Despite your reservations about the paper, I think it came up a real winner!

Thank you Wib and Seok for your very kind and generous comments, much appreciated.

As soon as I saw this I thought "Cezanne!". Then I saw it was supposed to be. Good work

Thank you very Tom, that's very kind of you.

16" x 12" watercolour. A friend gave me a field paint box with W&N half pans as a gift and I gave them a test run on this quick Cezanne still life. I've only ever used W&N in one colour and I was pleasantly surprised at how bright they were. Now, because I was just having a practice, I used an old piece of SAA practice paper, wish I hadn't as I quite like this in a rough sort of way. That paper isn't the best for watercolour.
