Not heavy handed at all - I would say 'confident' instead! Lovely limited palette (what is that neutral beige colour?) and the rocks look solid with substance. Lovely work.

And it worked out superbly made even better by the choice of palette - certainly not too heavy handed.

Like the colours Fiona. What paper are you using? Looks good.

Thank you Thea! The beige colour is either raw sienna or raw umber, the darker is the raw umber if that's the one you are referring to. The foreground greens are a mix of the raw umber and ultra marine.

Thank you very much Helen, the Cairn is in a very isolated place, and windy.

Michael, great idea about doing a copy, thanks very much.

Thanks Louise! The paper is Jackson's watercolour block, rough. It isn't their ECO paper, I ordered that by mistake and I'm not keen on that one, the surface isn't rough enough. I use this for sketching as it's a block and easy to use when you're out and about. The texture also gives a nice uneven edge when using a dip pen. The only thing you have to watch with it is that washes can easily cauliflower, if you add to much water on top of a previous laid down wash.

Worth adding the colour, no question in my mind, nice and bold with some strong dark area's which really lift it, well done Fiona, yet again another little classic.

I've never used that paper, in fact I don't think I've heard of it before.

Thank you very much Alan, glad you like it. The paper is probably not the quality you are use to using, I doubt it would take the soaking you would use on a watercolour. It's okay for pen work though and at £6.90 for 12 sheets (in a block) of 16" x 12", a snip!

You see, I told you it would be good!

You did Carole and you were right! Thank you.

You've brought it to life Fiona, love it!

You're very kind Christine, thank you.

Thanks Fiona, I shall look out for that paper. It looks as though the paint settles well on it, ideal for pen and wash.

I stand corrected Fiona, I know I said I liked it as pure pen and ink but the wash has really given the stones a soul, very nice.

Lovely sense of place.

No problem Louise.
Thank you for taking a look Malcolm, I expect you have passed many stone structures of this and other kinds on your travels.
Thanks Sylvia, appreciate your comment.

Yes Fiona you did it and it has turned out well . I like it ,its a lovely and fresh painting , well done.

I agree the colour certainly enhances it.

Very " Fiona"! Lovely colours and not too heavy at all.

Many thanks Dennis, Pat and Satu for you encouragement.

You know what I will say Fiona. This is scintillating

I liked the sketch, but I adore your pen and wash. These colours are fabulous.

Super piece Fiona!

Thank you Derek, much obliged!
As always Gudrun.....too kind but thank you X
Thanks Debs, much appreciated.

I like this with the wash Fiona but I don't think I've seen the other version? You really convey the structures very well.

I've just found the "washless" one.....I definitely prefer this one, the touch of colour has really added to it.

Many thanks Dennis and Marjorie, much appreciated

Lovely tones and great pen work Fiona!
