I like him. I didn't know we had long haired bats or whispering ones. Thanks for the info... I'm intrigued.🤔

Sorry fiona, Long eared, i meant, predicted text again.

Glad to see you off to a great start with your new etching tools. I look forward to the " come up at look at my etchings " email ! !. I know I am just batty too.

Their ears are as long as their body but when they are at rest they sort of shrink and curl round, they look like rams horns. As much as I love bats, this one doesn’t come high on the list of good lookers....lol Thank you for your interest Lesley.

Cool bat, and interesting that you are etching... I haven't a clue how that works so maybe when you settle into it you will share with us all how you go about it?

Lol Tony......let me get a bit more practice in before I send you that email! Thank you for the encouragement! David, thank you very much. I’m very much a beginner and novice at etching, it isn’t as easy as I thought it would be, I have to admit. It will be a long while before I’ll be competent at this technique but if you want any info, the best person on pol is Alan Bickley. He has some very fine etchings in his gallery and has written a couple of articles for POL......which have recently come back up on the forum. A couple of weeks ago I think.

I like you bat, Fiona. Look forward to seeing your future etchings.

Ditto, like the bat and look forward to more of your etchings.

Ha a flying moose, lol, love it a friend for Hamish 😂😂😂

This is all just an excuse Fiona - so you can issue those invitations😉 He's cute tho'.

We have Horseshoe bats locally Fiona, but I’m not a batty person though some would disagree about that. You are off on your experimenting again , great .

Not too bad at all Fiona. obviously more depth needed in places to give little Batty a 3D look. There is a massive difference with these new sharp tools, cleaner lines and you have managed a pretty decent print. I'm not sure what tools you have bought, there are some with shaped edges that you can 'dig' into the plate and they create interesting marks. I suspect that you have a variation of points which are essential to have, but have a look at other styles at a later date. I've only written one article on drypoint etching, the other was on monotype printing. I'm pleased that both yourself and Gudrun have had a go at both, inspired by these articles. Well done anyway.

Pleased to hear the new tools have arrived Fiona. I'm not a bat person (possibly Batty though) but you appear to have got off to good start with the "proper" tools. Well done.

I’m not a bat person, but some of them do have cute faces. Looking forward to seeing your work evolve, it sounds difficult.

So we are back on the Goth theme!! He's a fab bat Fiona. I know nothing about this type of work but it's very clever!

Thank you Seth, Sandra and Linda.....yes this is Dougal! Oh Marjorie, is it that obvious.....I thought I was being subtle! Lol

I’m totally batty Sylvia, it’s nice to have company. Thank you very much. Thanks Alan, I managed to get a mixture of needles, some with the kind of points that you’ve mentioned. I’m looking for a suitable subject to do nothing too complicated. Thanks Carol, having the correct tools has made a huge difference. Thanks Ellen! Yes Margaret, back to the goths.....thanks very much!

How beautiful Fiona, a great start to your etching! Well done!

Thank you Carole.

Having a practice with my newly arrived etching tools......nothing proper here Alan if you’re looking in, I’m just practicing mark making. I am batty about bats and this one is a Long Eared Bat, second most common in Great Britain after the Pipistrelle, also known as the whispering bat. My reference picture didn’t have very good details of the face I’m afraid, so he looks a bit odd.....which they aren’t, they are lovely!
