W.I.P. Blue Pot

Seems a shame to gesso over this, Fiona! The onions and pot are good, and I like the opposing colours you've used, they bounce off each other nicely. Perhaps let the idea of gesso rest for a while?

I have already seen this one and it does have potential, a lot of potential actually, a few minor issues as you say but well worth continuing with. You have a general 'downer' on your work Fiona, and it's not warranted.

It's a great painting Fiona, I love it so much :)

I'm with Alan you should carry on with this one Fiona it has the makings of a very good still life. The blue pot is lovely.

Marvelous, Fiona. You are so versatile in your media! I have to stick to watercolour, but would love to try oils one day.

Very good exercise, Fiona, well done. I still have not worked up the courage to paint still life neither in watercolours nor in water-soluble oil.

Are we ever satisfied with our art work I wonder, I know I find many more negatives than positive in mine and I'm not normally a glass half empty sort of person! This looks good to me, I love the blue pot and your onions are excellent!

Thank you all ever so much for your encouragement and lovely comments. I might leave it a few days and have another look at it. I find it very difficult to go back to a painting.......my impatience I suppose.
Yes Alan, a constant state of mind with me....lol!
Thanks again everyone.

Can't see any issues at all and don't be so hard on yourself Fiona, your breajfast place awaits.

Derek, I've just read that your wife is away for the week, would I have to cook my own breakfast...lol? Thank you for being very, very kind about this but the ellipses are all ove the place, the knife is bent, the book is lop sided......etc. Thanks again!

Well I like it Fiona!! I think that if you do not feel comfortable with this one I would try it again at a later date. I would be very happy with this if it was mine but if you're unhappy with this then I don't blame you for leaving it. Give it a month out of sight and then look at it again and I'm sure that you will be pleasantly surprised with how you painted this.

You're right Gudrun, who wants perfection!!lol Thank you!
Sarah, there is something to that idea, perhaps I've been looking into it too much, it's worth a try. Thank you for that.

Don't ditch this Fiona. It has character. How about going over it here and there with a palette knife? I sometimes do this and it takes the pressure off.

That's good advice Marjorie, as you say it takes the pressure off and if I'm not too bothered about saving it....it might work! Thank you for that.....I do love this site!

I wouldn't gesso this, Fiona. The inaccuracies are not glaring and can be easily fixed. The piece has good fundamentals, and you just need to let it rest and return with a fresh eye. I love the palette and the spontaneity of your brushwork.

Many thanks again Seok!

I really like this...colours are lovely done.

Oil on board 24"x16". This has lots of issues, too numerous to mention. It was an exercise in time and differences rather than accuracy...as you can see lol. I did this along with a friend who chose to paint with a knife to see how different the end result would be in the set time. My friend finished her version but was much less accurate than mine. I won't do any more with it, except perhaps cover it with gesso ready for the next exercise.
