Those darks really stand out, must have used a very soft pencil.

Thanks Stephen.....I used 4b and 6b pencils.

Well done Fiona.

It was certainly worth the return visit to get those dark shadows Fiona. I think that really makes it. yet another good sketch.

Such good shadows Fiona. A good place to sketch and you've done well!

Great sketch, Fiona, with super shadows. The sun reveals all sorts of wonderful days and this day seems to have shone very well. Bri

Dark long shadows and good composition, a recipe for a great sketch.

Thank you very much Henry! Thanks Carol, I took a few photos of other parts of the graveyard whilst there, I may be able to use some of them in the future. Did you get my email? Thanks Louise, I like it there, I feel I belong.....lol Ooooohhhhhh! Many thanks Brian, it’s hard to resist when it happens! You’re on my wavelength Annick! Thank you. Thanks Dennis, I like the shapes that the shadows made.

The shadows are great Fiona.. adds some nice drama to the sketch.

Super sketch Fiona

Good drawing, Fiona.

Lovely strong drawing Fiona.

Love your sketches, Fiona, must get myself out Wigtown way sometime.

Lovely drawing again Fiona, and those shadows were so important and really give this some depth. Excellent!

Another great sketch, lovely contrasting lights and darks 😀

I love the contrast between light and shadow, Fiona. Strong sketch.

Another good sketch Fiona, I think ruined churches and graveyards are so interesting.

Many thanks Pete, Rachel, Pete, Cesare, Margaret, Willie...you should, it’s about 1.5hours from Carsethorn area which you already know. Alan, Linda, Mia, Val....thank you very much!

Very atmospheric with the deep shadows. (this will make a beautiful public loo when the conversion is finished.!!!!! ) Sorry.

Lol.....Tony I wouldn’t be surprised if it hasn’t already been used, even before the conversion! Thank you very much for your interest.

Sketchbook and pencils. 11th century ruins of Wigtown parish church and headstones. The ruins lay a number of yards away from the newly built church which was erected in the early 1800’s. The first time I tried to sketch this it was a grey, gloomy day and everything looked flat, so I did a re-visit on a sunny day and managed to get some deep shadowed areas. I left it until late afternoon to make the most of the low sun and long shadows.
