Beautifully drawn, Fiona.

A drawing with a meaning - lovely work, Fiona - perhaps you should paint it - it's a great subject.

I love your drawing and description. Very Interesting. I have a love/hate relationship with ivy, it often looks beautiful and is as tough as old boots. But it consumes everything. I recently put ivy in a large wooden planter against a fence, it attempted to devour the fence. When I decided to get rid of it, I found the contents of the planter was 90% ivy roots...it had 'eaten' the soil. It's at the tip now, no doubt consuming the contents of the skip.

Nicely observed and drawn Fiona, well done indeed!

I have always loved ivy clad trees and ivy full stop. My son had ivy bunting in his wedding reception which was wonderful. You have captured perfectly the characteristic shape of old and ivy covered trees. I absolutely love this drawing!

Fabulous drawing. You also, always give us gems of information.

Fantastic pen drawing and marks Fiona, and I liked your words. Last evening I was pulling up ivy creeping from the hedge making its way into the garden. Yes very persistent, and my back aches this morning! :)

A brilliant sketch Fiona. Great narrative too.

Beautiful and thought provoking Fiona ivy just it's nature

Beautiful detailed drawing, Fiona.

Fabulous drawing and with your words brings extra life to its narrative.

Thank you for this snippet of information Fiona. Your drawing is beautifully elegant and interesting, especially those fine spidery marks, so effective in drawing the branches and grasses. Love the fact that it tells a story.

Skillfull drawing ,and ivy is in much of the landscape.-Well drawn here

Thank you very much Margaret. Maureen, I very nearly did put some watercolour on this but thought I could do another! Thank you. Lewis I know some people detest Ivy but I’m one of its fans, it can be hard work to get rid of though. Thanks very much for your comment. Thanks very much Alan! X Me too Diana, I love the silhouette of the Ash and Ivy trees in the winter. I make Ivy swags for Christmas decorations. Thank you. Thanks very much Gudrun. Oh dear Carole! Hope it’s better this morning, thanks for your comment. Many thanks Michael, appreciated. It is Dennis, don’t tell anyone but I plant it around the garden.....yikes! Thank you. Cesare many thanks for your comment.

Heather, Carole, David, many thanks for your feedback. I love Ivy, and encourage where ever I can in the garden, it does make an excellent ground cover. It’s also late flowering, a good source of nectar and a bonus of berries later on in the winter when everything else has been stripped. Thanks again.

Brilliant sketch Fiona, 😀

Thanks Linda!

Beautifully drawn Fiona.

Beautifully observed and drawn Fiona. I love this type of pen drawing, and your explanation adds so much to it. There are so many bulk postings on the gallery these days, that maybe this is what’s needed, a single offering with a decent story to it?

Thank you very much Shaun! Tessa, thank you for your very kind words. X

A splendid drawing Fiona

Beautiful drawing, Fiona.

A lovely sketch Fiona, and get you, getting all deep and full of sage like knowledge ......or is that ivy like knowledge ? Never the less , this would be a great painting just place an old guy with a walking stick leaning against the wall on the left ,pipe as well sort of set it off , little billow of smoke and deep in thought with your conundrum ..??

Thank you very much Dermot and Ellen! I think I’m going through a philosophical phase Alan......either that or a waffling phase...lol! I like the sound of your composition for a painting of the subject....you first! Thanks very much Alan, how are you getting on?

Hi fiona... Basically hobbling a bit but hobbling less every day.. 😊 can I put orange on this painting if I have a go? 🎨

Good, as long as you will be able to hobble outdoors to paint....when the weather starts behaving itself that is. A friend of my husbands has a large woodland and it’s full of bluebells at the moment, I’m dying to get there to paint them, but it keeps raining....aaarrrrr! I don’t think I have long left before they go over. Yes, yes, yes to the orange! As it’s raining here at the moment, again, I might have a go at your suggestion later.....if I don’t get side tracked.

16”x12” Indian ink and dip pen on Jackson’s rough paper. This Ivy clad Ash tree stands alone at the edge of the field. The Ash is said to form the axis of the world, it stands for connection, wisdom and surrender and is one of the three sacred trees. The Ivy is said to be by some, a parasite and causes the death of its host....it represents change, determination and patience.....maybe it requires these attributes to out live the mighty Ash.
