Still life’s are so satisfying Fiona....this one especially .

Great little still life Fiona. It needs a lot of discipline to use ink so very impressive.

Attractive composition, Fiona, and I really like the sepia colouring.

A really lovely drawing, and great to have a pal to paint with!

Many thanks Sandra, Pat, Sylvia, Carole, Jenny and Thalia for your very generous feedback.

Great tones Fiona, an excellent pen and ink.

Hi Fiona - thanks for your comment on Blood Red Roses - I gesso the mixed media board with maybe 2 coats to give a bit of texture. Then let it dry. Mix the oil colour needed, then add to it with approx 30% cold wax. Move the paint around with a brush and add extra marks and lines with a plastic scraper/credit card etc. This gives a rougher, thicker more abstract feel. You can also use oil paper or canvas but I like this mixed media board (from Jacksons) because it is tough and light. You can scrape into it for different effects. You don't need to frame with a mount/glass, just frame without. You could if you want to add a bit of pastel on top, anything goes. Or use an underpainting in acrylic or ink.

Marjorie thank you. Can you believe a few years ago I wouldn’t look at a still life as a subject.....now, I quite enjoy them. Hi Pat, I’ve left a comment on your painting. Thank you very much Helen.

What a great drawing Fiona, I like the crumpled paper too, smashing.

Sketchbook and sepia ink. I get together with a friend from time to time and we have a day painting or drawing, last week on our day out, it was raining so we stayed indoors. Thank goodness for a well stocked fruit bowl and piece of kitchen roll. A couple of apples, some grapes and a plum.
