“If a picture paints a thousand words....” These say it all, Fiona. Lovely sketches.

Very fine sketches, Fiona.

Great stuff Fiona, these would be interesting to do.

Thank you Ellen. Yes, very characterful individuals. Thanks Lewis, not as fine as your own wonderful creations. I’m hoping so Marjorie, certainly a challenge. I think I’ll do lots of parred down sketches before the prints. Thank you for your comment.

These are brilliant Fiona. Great drawings and great social comment.

Thanks Michael, I thought you would approve.

A big thank you to our Jim Morris for his instructions on how to set up this collage of pictures. Thanks Jim! X

Very evocative sketches Fiona-you can see the hardship they had to endure. By the way I sent an e mail this afternoon but the connection went as it was on it's way and the last sentences were lost in the ether. Sorry about that.

Good and poignant Fiona. The not so good old days !

Great Fiona. Interesting .

Good work Fiona, and glad you sorted the collage effect. Well done.

What a lovely set of sketches Fiona

Thank you very much Satu. Hi Carol, thanks very much. Received your email okay, all of it, thank you. Many thanks Richard, they are not very good sketches really but I just wanted to catch ‘something’ in their looks. I don’t think any of the characters in the book are wearing clothes that actually fit! Either too small, too large...especially the children, if they are wearing clothes at all!

Thanks Sylvia, Jim 👍, Carolyn for your generous feedback.

Excellent drawings Fiona!

Very good sketching Fiona, tells a tale of social life in bygone times.

Your ske tches tell the story Fiona, very good indeed.

Thought provoking set of sketches. Glad we live in these times even if the world is far from perfect. Well done.

wonderful images they really tell a story.

Such good work Fiona, it must have been really hard times.

Love the sketches. I look forward to your next phase.

Lovely work Fiona. The so called gypsies today are not the Romanies, but ...."

Thank you all very much for your feedback on these sketches, I’m not at all good at this kind of thing but I hope to develop them into something. Thanks again.

A collection of quick rough sketches 6b pencil. I posted a off-set mono print a few days ago based on a large monoprint of two Irish women by Robert Colquhoun, I think it was done around the mid 1940’s. I don’t have any Irish women handy so I’ve used for reference the photographs of Andrew McCormick’s taken in the early 1900’s, in a book I have about Galloway traveller families. There is so much hardship in their faces, stances and demeanours, it’s that I would like to capture and develop into monoprints using Colquhou’s down to the minimum lines etc.
