I love all the textures, Fiona. It’s very striking and makes you look.

Love the interesting textures Fiona and lots of lovely marks.

It's very effective Fiona

It looks like you had some fun Fiona ,love the long grass and bush in foreground and the pink, orange, blue touches here and there.

I really like this Fiona. Such good effects and energy.

Nearly missed this one Fiona, glad I didn't ! Good long grasses and the "splashes" of orange.

WHERE IS THE OTHER ALF THEN LOL? By Eck there is some energy in this. For making pastels Fiona use pigments with gum Tragacanth with french chalk is best. If you use gum arabic you will end up with hard pastels. However you mentioned pumic powder which is for putting in acrylic paint to prime a surface on which to work with pastel.

Ellen, Carole, Russell, Annick......thank you very much. I did enjoy it and it was quite by accident really. I had some old gesso in a tub which had turned to paste, I was taking it out and spreading it on the paper.....I thought, this would make some good textures when it’s dry!

Thanks Louise, Richard, John for your comments. I’m please the energy came through, I was doing some scrubbing at it with various things. I love the work of John Humber, who posts on this site his work was the inspiration and well, the boat was handy! John, the other arf sank! Lol Thanks for the info on the pastels, I wouldn’t bother making my own pastels but certainly will have a go at the surface preparation. Has your Eardley book come yet?

The book is a new book coming from America. Should be here by 15th Feb. Thanks.

I wasn't thinking anything actually Fiona... the title has lost me but the piece is expressive, full of gorgeous textures and I like it lots. You should of course have flagged up its arrival on the forum as instructed.

Very interesting Fiona, love the textures and the way you have painted this one, (also the title. LOL)

Alan, I was taking the mickey out of myself ref the title, it’s the boat theme, and how everyone must be sick to the back teeth of me posting them. I’m glad you like it Alan, thanks very much and no, I didn’t flag it up, completely slipped my mind! David, thank you very much, appreciate your comment. X

My word Fiona I can see you had fun doing this & I'm very impressed with the end result. Lots of sneaky "dabs" of colour keep revealing themselves. Are you going to follow up with the other half of the boat??

Ah another lovely boat Fiona, bring it on, you paint them so well with all these lovely textures, think i'll do a boat next LOL

The title made me laugh before I opened the pic. I'm one of those people who laughs inwardly...very painful. But nothing to laugh at about the picture...another great image, Fiona.

There's more to this one than meets the eye. From the thumbnail the amount of colour and life doesn't come across bur on closer inspection its much more interesting :-)

Love the title Fiona😂 lots of lovely textures in this!

Carol I did! I wasn’t sure whether there was enough colour but it was only a mess about really. Ref painting the other half, I’ll need to call the coastguard in. Lol....thank you Linda, yes let’s flood the gallery with boats! We wouldn’t be very popular.... Thank you Lewis I’m glad I could return the favour in making you laugh! Thanks very much Maureen, David and Margaret for you feedback, much appreciated.

I love the textures and the energy in this and the touches of colour make it stand out.

Another masterpiece Fiona, I wonder how that style would work on a portrait!.

Very interesting piece Fiona, love the random splashes of colour drawing the eye across the work. Very nice.

Good energetic and very expressive piece of work Fiona

Bold and very lively. Loads of energy and movement emanating from this piece, Fiona!

Janet, Charles, Andre,Dennis, Dermot, Seok, Gudrun.....many thanks to you all for your lovely comments....much appreciated.

14”x12” mixed media on paper......gesso, graphite, charcoal, oil pastel. Just another view and medium to expand on the original idea.
