I think you are doing well with oils Fiona, I haven't done one for a while, I suppose it's all about practice, practice, practice.

I am sure you will loosen Fiona judging by this smasher

Lovely fresh greens and looks like you found a nice sheltered spot too, lovely painting.

Nice oil study, Fiona. I like the touches of pink which attract the viewers' eyes.

Well done Fiona, it looks great, especially the foreground and the bushes! Very brave to paint outdoors!!

Lovely painting Fiona some very nice colours in it .well done .

Looks peaceful there Fiona, lovely greenery.

You're doing well, Fiona! The colors are very harmonious and there's a nice immediacy to this piece. I don't know if it'll help, but I found that if you apply some paint and use a paper towel to spread the paint thinly with a swift wiping motion, it does give a looser and more spontaneous look to the marks and helps the different colors blend more naturally.

Many thanks everyone for your generous comments, you have made me feel a little better about it. Thank you Seok, sounds like a good idea, I'll give it a try.

You oil painting is coming on in leaps and bounds if this one is anything to go by. A potting shed is a good choice of subject as they always have character and are usually surrounded by nice vegetation giving scope for using lots of tones and textures. This one has worked out very well.

Very pretty scene Fiona!

Thank you very much Thea and Sarah, I'm finding it quite challenging, especially trying to produce a loose and satisfactory picture.

Tuesday's oil class this week was at Claymoddie gardens, the weather was cool and breezy but I found a sheltered corner which was opposite this lovely old potting shed. All was going well until the break for tea & tiffin when the heavens opened, everything was wet through by the time I got back to my gear....good job it was oil! Finished it off this morning after a bit of scraping and scrubing. Sorry about the quality of photo, it's another dreich day in Galloway. I'm finding it difficult to loosen up with oils. Painted on canvas board 16"x12".
