Third and Final Version!! by Fiona Phipps

Third and Final Version!!
Comments

Never give up. I sometimes do six or more before being satisfied

Well, I suppose never say never.......but is it an improvement on version 2 Alan?

Fiona the main thing is are you happy with it? After all we are but amateurs. I'm afraid nowadays I paint for myself - not for others. It is after all a hobby to be enjoyed.

Definitely the best of the three. Well done!

Hi Fiona. I think the answer is, all three are delightful paintings, each one from a slightly different view point but all in the same style. My only criticism in the second one would be regarding the upward sweep of a blade of grass in the right-hand foreground that somehow joins itself to a dark mark which appears to me to be in the middle ground. The two dark marks need to be separated. I personally would not crop the picture. Lovely style and compositions, Fiona, and those rocks in the foreground are great. Yes, I think you've nailed it!!

I like the first one..LOL (only joking) Seriously, well done for persevering with the subject. All three are good, but I like the foreground and composition of this one!

I too like all three of these but I think I prefer this one as there is more definition in the foreground rocks. For someone who a long time ago said they were no good at greens, I'd say you've well and truly mastered that now. Thanks for your comment on my version of Alan's country lane -I have answered on that screen.

Love the foreground rocks and grasses in this one Fiona with just a glimpse of the lake and distant mountains. I am no landscape expert but like this version the best.

This is really lovely Fiona! I have looked at the previous ones several times and for me they go in order. The first was a tiny bit hesitant, the second one your usual great work and now this third one is a very confident watercolour. I love the rocks with those deep shadows and the distant shining water. Congratulations for persevering!

I think this one looks more confident - the strokes, colours, everything. The foreground is perfect, it's strong yet leads the eye to the distant view. The sky is calmer and takes a backseat in this one. I think you can be very satisfied with the result, Fiona.

This is excellent Fiona, love your brush stokes and washes in this one with great colour choices as well

Great brush strokes Fiona, great work!

ps. Yes I think your strokes look more confident and smoother Fiona.

This is the winner because of the foreground Fiona, though I still like the far hills in number two, and I like the palette in number one. Oh heck, they are all winners :)

Now then, now then......we'll have no fighting, this is a civilised site!! Well, I can't tell you how grateful I am for all your feedback folks. It may seem a simple task for you to pen a few lines to give your opinions but it's such a huge help to me. I only paint for myself but I would still like, in the end, to produce something that not only do I like the look of, but also has the right ingredients in the right place. I must admit this one is my favourite....so far, you never know I might just have another go!!!! Thanks all, once again much appreciated.

All three are great in their own way, this is certainly a more finished painting than no2 , but I wouldn't know which is better. 3 very good and different paintings.

Thanks very much for your imput Kevin, I prefer this one.

I think I vote with the majority for this one Fiona. I like the texture, especially with the blue rear hillside which stands out against the sky and lake. The nearer slope also pushes back the distant landscape. The rocks look very real and solid also. The only part I perhaps would change is to crop out the nearest grasses, as I think they look a bit fussy (for my taste that is).

Fantastic work Fiona

Well, I am pleased you like this one best. It is stronger in both composition and in your use of colours. Like Louise says, it is more confident. It's good to strive and develop. I try!

Stephen, Petra, Gudrun thank you very much for your imput....I couldn't do it without you all!

A hard choice, Fiona! Each has a distinctly different feel and atmosphere, but all are good!

Beautiful work Fiona, not getting into the 'brawl', but I like this one.

Many thanks Seok, Glennis for having a look.
