Ivy, Natures Architect? by Fiona Phipps

Excellent sketch, definitely a watercolour for me .

Either, you’d make a good job of both.

Nothing insires me more that an old oak covered in ivy… there’s something about it and they’re great for drawing… nicely done, an oil for me every time!

I love the smudginess of this , very evocative

Yes I love an ivy covered tree, however not on my fence. Good work Fiona and good use of materials. Let’s have an oil I do so enjoy your flowing paint mark making.

So well observed. Watercolour I think.

Great sketch Fiona. I like ivy but often wonder if the tree is irritated by it especially if the growth is particularly heavy.

Excellent work Fiona.

Both mediums Fiona! That’s a beautiful sketch

So lively. Captured beautifully. I’d love to see it in watercolour. Such a challenge!

Great sketch, love ivy covered trees - an oil or watercolour version would both be good,

Looking forward to your next version Fiona

Beautiful sketch Fiona. I'd like watercolour!

It is wonderful that you are sharing your work in this medium, Fiona ! 🌿 The textures look incredibly organic. It would be very interesting to see this composition developed into an oil painting. 🎨

I couldn’t be alone in loving this subject…..so, watercolour first I think, then the oil! Thank you all for your engaging comments, always enjoy reading your feedback.

Super sketch Fiona and I’m looking forward to seeing this turn into a painting whether oils or watercolour? Wonderful!

Thank you William, I think it will be a watercolour for starters!

Love the lights and darks in this sketch. The ivy-covered tree has great personality.

Love how you use charcoal Fiona.

Many thanks Lynne, Shaun for your generous comments.

Very atmospheric

Thank you Graham, always good to receive your comments, much appreciated.

Powdered and willow charcoal with eraser, in Etchr sketchbook. I know it’s a parasite but I love an Ivy covered tree, they make such great subjects! I’m hoping to turn it into a painting at some point……watercolour or oils?
