Quick Sketch

Sketching keeps you sharp and makes you not feel bad about not "painting". I love the warmth and mysterious feel to this. The light is perfect. Even though we are further south here, the light is really quite gloomy and this has that nearing winter's shortest day feel. I had to resort to putting on my daylight biobulb today to get on with some painting. It was too dark!

Hi Fiona. I like the immediacy that this picture has, which is, I suppose, the result of it being en plein air and a sketch. The limited palette also works well in this painting. Love it - as usual!

It may be a sketch, and you may never use it, but it has a certain hazy quality to it that makes it special. It is beautiful.

I love your little sketches Fiona! The trees are so beautiful and the colours have perfect autumn shades.

I like the trees too, very natural.

Good, lively sketch Fiona.

This is just lovely. It's a painting in itself.

It might be a quick sketch Fiona but it has a big impact!

Many thanks everyone. It's just a sketch but they do keep you painting when you haven't anything else planned on the proper painting front.....which is were I am at the moment. Thanks again folks!

Love the colours Fiona, quick sketch or not it is very appealing

Stunning work, Fiona! It has such immediacy, and your brushwork is so vibrant . A really lovely piece.

Super, Fiona, and I love the texture the paper adds to the painting. You have become very accomplished at this type of painting and have the knack of tackling what looks like a simple scene and turning into a real work of art.

Unmistakably yours Fiona. You are so good at these so called "sketches", but for me they are full watercolours in their own right.

This is great - sometimes the little sketches are the gems. Happy Christmas and all the best for 2014

Thank you Glennis, Seok, Thea, Val and Joseph for all your support, it is very much appreciated.

This is really really good Fiona, I can hardly fault it. I may have just picked out one tree to the right and made it very slightly more prominent to give a bit more impact, well done.

You have a lot of potential but it needs some fine tuning here and there, but this style suits you,

Just a quick sketch from my sketch book of a bank of tree's, that I may include in a watercolour at some later stage. I seem to collect lots of pages of this kind of thing, that I will probably never use! It's nice to get out and get something down on paper though. Okra paper, old Holland watercolours, the usual limited palette of about four; ultra marine, B. umber, R. sienna, there may be a speck of L. red in there as well.
