Bamburgh Castle

Comments

Love the colours Fiona, it's such a great place to paint, I like the windswept grasses

A super mixed media painting, Fiona. Not too purple to me, very colourful!

Purple is allowed in my book. This is the North od the castle and therefore in shadow, so purple is OK. Did you paint or at sunrise?

I love purple in any context and in this its really great. Love the windswept look

Great combination of colours, Fiona - love the purple!

Well it’s an explosion of purple and yellow in the sky which creates interest. I like the hard silhouette edges of the castle but I may have softened the land mass as it nears the water, but it’s your work! Pretty decent effort though!

Terrific scene Fiona. This is on my list of ‘must visit’ places in the UK!

An imposing place, I've not seen it in reality. You've captured a rugged building in a rugged place. I like it very much.

Another free lovely Fiona we learn so much with these

You have captured the wild, bleakness of the area Linda. The colours work well, especially those lovely purples Fiona.

A Beautiful and vibrant image, Fiona!

I love the effects you have acheived in the foreground and I really like the purple sea!

Mmmm....looking at it here, I think the purple is a wee bit OTT! Apart from the view, the palette and the sunrise/sunset (?) is all fabrication, in reality it was a bright summers day with wall to wall blue sky! It’s such a wondrous place, I think you could invent any number of atmospheric effects and the castle would still stand dominant and proud. Many thanks for all your comments and observations, I enjoy reading your thoughts and ideas. X

Purple and yellow - perfect and great impact Fiona

Fabrication or not I think it works well Fiona the place has its own mystery at times anyway so you have just tapped into that and you are right about Lindisfarne, the last one I did of that in oils the other week brought back many memories of a fantastic 2 weeks one November, nice work Fiona.

I like it a lot Fiona, it’s as you see place and feel it, for what it’s worth I think it worked out fine.

Shaun, Malcolm, Paul......thank you very much for your very kind comments, glad you like it.

16” x12” mixed media, watercolour Indian ink and conte crayon on Waterford paper. Okay, I think I might be just a tad obsessed with Bamburgh and Lindesfarne after a visit there last year. I’ve been through my sketches and pics of the place, now I’m making it up! Its a bit purple.....
